Check Out These Lower Carb Side Dish Options!

Low-Carb MakeoversI am always looking for ways to spice up my low-carb meals and when I saw the post "7 Classic Carb-Heavy Dinners—Made Lighter" from the prevention.com I was intrigued. It is defiantly a post to keep in my Jimmy D's Pintrest Cookbook.

NON-GMO: Learning about Canola Oil

I am a person that respects the idea of NON-GMO foods but in practice falls short of being a true follower. Budget, time and a whole bucket of other excuses kept me from really starting to dig into the subject. Just like anything, the more I learn the more I find that I need to know. Its going to be a process but I figured I would share what I have found so far.

Low Cost Protein Powder for your Low Carb Lifestyle

I was looking to get away from the WalMart protein powder I decided to give Trader Joe's Vanilla Flavored Soy Protein Powder a try.

COST: It a little over $10 for the tub and that was just about 1/2 of the price of  Whey Isolate from WalMart. You also get more so that is a plus.

CARBS: DaliyBurn reports that the carbs in Trader Joe's Vanilla Flavored Soy Protein Powder is 1g per serving. Total calories are 120.

TASTE: Defiantly has a different taste then the Whey Isolate. It's more of a grainy flavor. I had to add some Splenda to the mix. Arguably this adds cost.

Listening To Your Body To Get More Energy!

It is surprising the amount of energy it takes the body to process cretin types of food. What is even more surprising is the impact that is has on everything else. Needless to say, burning that much energy can alter your mood and adjust your outlook on things. In short it can mess you up. Poor choices over the weekend during a 16 hour security class/seminar reminded me how important eating the right fuel is.

Saturday I had a limited breakfast. For lunch they provided chips, white bread sandwiches, cookie things and water. To top it off I had a burger and fries from McDonalds for dinner. I know, horrible! That night I paid the price with a total crash and burn. Sunday I tried to move back to the norm with oat meal/flax  for breakfast and an apple as a snack. Sadly, lunch came around and I lost my will power and had a little too much of the pizza and chips that they ordered.  Dinner was chicken with a lower carb/low sugar BBQ sauce and a salad. That nights energy level wasn't as bad as the night before.

Loving My Green Drink!

Getting my GREEN on this morning! One interesting thing that I picked up on during the weekend of my longest run ever was the Green Drink. Tony Robbins spoke about it, Dr Oz had a green drink segment about it and my research was positive on the subject. So I decided to start testing! So I went down to my local Whole Foods (which also has a great post on drinking your greens),  purchased some packets of GenEssentials Greens. and went from there.

It's been a little over a week and I like what I am seeing, except for yesterday/Sunday night when I took Melatonin (don't ask). Another thing that I have been looking into is how pH level affects the body. I decided to add lemon juice to the mix to help with my pH level which I have been testing and have been unbalance more often then not.

Working Out Can Make You Smarter.

One of my core beliefs is that you need to find balance in everything you do in life. Basically you need to address all aspects of the holistic triangle (physical, mental and spiritual). When you successfully combine these three points you have a balanced human. Simply put, exercising your brain is as important as exercising your body and spiritual side.

Smoothies Give You Super Human Powers!

I wanted to get a quick post out and tell you about my newest kick, juice and vegetable smoothies! Now there is a lot of hype about using juice to detox your body. Since this is a quick post I don't want to get into the pro's and con's of detoxing your body this way but I do want share with you the reasons why I think that turning your fruits and veggies into a smooth drink is a great idea.
